FAQs

How much weight can my truck carry?

There are several things to consider.

1. The payload capacity – In many cases this rating is posted in the glove box of your truck, if not refer to your owners manual or manufacturers resources.

2. GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating) – Is the maximum weight the manufacturer rates that truck to carry, including weight of the truck and all people. Cargo, fuel etc.

3. GAWR (Gross Axle Weight Rating) – is the maximum rating the manufacturer rates the axles to carry.

4. TIRE CAPACITY (rating of your tire) – This fine print on the sidewall of your tire, usually just behind the tire inflation number, this will usually be a direct correlation to the axle ratings and GVWR on new truck.  This will always be your weak link in your weight carrying capacity and should always be checked before carrying any load, including a passenger car for that matter. SAFETY ALERT – Always make certain you choose tires with the proper load capacity to handle whatever load you are carrying with your vehicle!

What’s center of gravity and how is it measured on your campers?

The center of gravity (CG) or also called center of balance is the balance point of a camper, from front to rear with standard equipment, and propane tanks with no options. You determine the center of gravity of a camper by measuring from where the camper contacts the front of the truck bed and measuring backward towards the tailgate.

When should we put the chemicals in our toilet?

You should always keep chemicals in your black/toilet tank at all times to keep the waste and tissue breaking down and to maintain fresh smelling tanks. Also remember to always dump all of your holding tanks when coming home from camping, don’t let partially full or full tanks sit when not in use… Let’s just say you will not like the outcome!

What’s a DSI water heater and what is its advantage?

DSI stands for “Direct or Digital Spark Ignition.” With a DSI water heater, you can turn the water heater on or off from the inside the camper instead of going outside to manually light your water heater. Just flip a switch!

Can people ride in the camper?

Laws vary from state to state on this issue, but regardless of legality, it’s not recommended because there are no seat belts in the camper – and in the case of an erratic move or impact, objects within the camper could cause injury.

Can your camper be used while it’s off the truck?

Yes, our campers are designed and engineered to be used off of the truck. That is one of the features that truck campers provide the ability to set up camp, off-load your camper and the ability to use your truck for other things, hunting, launch the boat, run to town etc.

I’m thinking of downsizing from a motorhome to a truck and camper is this practical?

We manufacture both and we see many people upgrading both ways, it all depends on your RV’ing lifestyle. We see many people downsizing from big 5th wheels and motorhomes so they can have easier access to see the world and with our double and triple slide truck campers you aren’t giving up as much room as you might think. A camper offers all of the features of a motorhome or 5th wheel in a compact package that’s easy to handle, economical and can be used anytime, anywhere. You can unload the camper and use the truck to go anywhere, hunting, shopping, to launch the boat, you name it. Most who try it, love it. In addition, you can park just about anywhere you can park a car. If you have a truck already you already own half of the RV and it allows you the ability to upgrade either half, the truck or the camper.

Why do truck campers seem higher priced than a comparably equipped travel trailer?

It simply takes more labor to build a truck camper because you are adding all of the equipment than you do in trailer and sometime even more like a generator into a lot smaller area. Also truck campers must be built stronger because they don’t have a steel frame for support and are built to withstand off-road travel. Truck campers are equipped with four corner jacks that add cost. The life span and resale value of a truck camper is much better than a travel trailer.
